Here, we will walk you through eight tips to ensure you shake that boredom off and find a way to remain productive at work.
1. Get enough sleep
When you’ve had a good night’s sleep, you’ll tend to have more energy and focus during your workday compared to a previous night of constant tossing and turning.
It’s been proven that a poor night’s sleep can affect your judgment and creativity.
So, if you want to beat the boredom monster once and for all, consider getting a good 7–9 hours of shut eye per night.
2. Tidy your workspace
This may seem like a pointless task, but having a tidy workspace will increase your productivity.
If you’re drowning in piles of paper, you’re likely going to get distracted by your surroundings rather than focusing on the task at hand.
Not only that, but taking a brief break from a task can help you reset and refocus and give you the boost of energy that you need.
3. Give yourself small targets to meet
Without an end goal in sight, it can be difficult to keep yourself motivated — especially if you’re working a remote job.
Therefore, it’s essential to set yourself a few small challenges that you can meet.
For example, if you tick off all of your tasks for the day, spend the final hour doing research to expand your skillset or completing a free online course.
4. Change your scenery
If you work from home, consider moving your “office” for the day.
You could work outside, or from a local coffee shop.
And if you really can’t focus in your home environment, consider renting a shared desk space where you can interact with other professionals.
5. Stay connected with your colleagues
Talking to a coworker for five minutes can help you get out of a rut and feel more energized.
So, if you work in a solo role, connect with a colleague from another department.
Whether it’s chatting on IM, giving them a quick call or walking round to their work post.
6. Take a holiday
Sometimes all you need to refocus is to take a few days off and recharge your batteries.
Do something out of the norm of your regular routine and connect with friends and family.
This can often be enough to regain motivation and work harder while you’re on the job.
We all need some down time every now and again!
7. Improve your emotional intelligence
Do you lack self-awareness? If so, observe how you react to people, self-evaluate your work habits and actions and notice how these can affect those around you. There is a real essence of excitement by breaking away from your normal chores for a while.
By following these steps, you’ll be able to improve your emotional intelligence, which, as a result, will help alleviate boredom at work.
8. Take frequent breaks
If you haven’t already heard of the famous pomodoro method, then now is your chance to listen in.
This highly practiced technique helps manage time by breaking your day into intervals.
Using this method, you break your workday into 25–minute chunks separated by five-minute breaks.
These intervals are referred to as pomodoros.
After about four pomodoros, you take a longer break for about 15 to 20 minutes.
